Overview

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic full-stack Java engineer to add to our growing engineering team. Engineering at Skillko is remote first, with the heart of the team based in Lisbon, Portugal.

We are offering a position in a fun fast paced start-up environment with many opportunities to learn while working on a range of projects. As we grow the team you will be an integral part of that growth, and will have a say in how our solutions and architecture evolve and scale.

We’re recruiting an engineer who is a generalist and is comfortable shipping across the Skillko stack. Engineers at Skillko have exquisite attention to detail, and are comfortable learning new technologies and systems.

Skillko is an innovative SaaS start-up focused on changing how companies sell, procure and manage training for their staff and clients. We already work with some of the biggest forward thinking brands in the UK & Ireland including Keltbray, G2 Energy, RNCE, Designer Group and Dynamic Safety Solutions, but to name a few.

We are a fast growing start-up and our Product and Engineering team is at the heart of that.

What will you do?

• Work within our current technical stack (Java Spring, AngularJS & AWS)

• Take an active role in product development and push new product directions

• Personally own a feature from inception to completion across the stack, from design to final testing

• Making complex technical and design decisions for Java/AngularJS projects

• Mentor other members of the team as we grow our skills base

• Enhance our practice in continuous integration, test automation and continuous deployment

• Strive to build a top-class user experience throughout the application

• Be a ‘founder member’ of our Portugal Product Team

Our Stack
Our product team focuses on building projects across our tech stack. This will grow as we require to scale to support our rapidly expanding customer base.

• Java - Spring REST API services

• AWS Environment - Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, RDS, SES and Lambda

• Frontend - AngularJS, HTML, CSS

• Mobile App - React Native

What skills do you need?

• 5+ years developing and delivering production ready software products to customers

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

• Experience in modern Java capabilities and techniques

• Spring Boot, Spring Security, Spring JPA & Hibernate

• Relational data modelling concepts and experience in PostgreSQL,or similar

• RESTful web services design patterns

• AWS Cloud Infrastructure - Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, SNS, SES, Lambda

• Front end technologies - AngularJS 1.5, HTML5, CSS

• Source control - Git

• React Native Mobile App Development (A nice to have)

• Microservices-based application architecture

• Fluency in English
