Role Purpose

The position is a critical role within The Learning People Ltd. The Student Mentor provides support for our students enrolled within software development courses. The mentors all work remotely providing online support.

Our training is online and mentors help individuals move into a career in software development. Our students often have limited experience or previous skills so you will help them navigate through their training and projects to becoming job ready developers.


  • Able to build strong relationships with mentees
  • Provide your mentees with guidance and constructive feedback on their project work from an industry professional's perspective.
  • Introduce professional coding habits, practices and conventions to your mentees as they take their project from development to deployment.
  • Help build the mentees confidence in their ability while they study to become a Software Developer.
  • Mentor multiple students on a scheduled basis.
  • Commit to being punctual, prepared and maintain a high standard of quality work.
  • Commit to being available 10+ hours weekly.
  • Be the source of insight and advice for their professional curiosity.

Required Skills

  • You will demonstrate strong communication, both written and verbal
  • Ideally have at least 1-2 year's experience in development
  • Have a good understanding of HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, Git, Python and MySql
  • You will use your skills and experience to help students solve a wide variety of problems
  • Be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and approachability

Skills & Experience Desired (Not Mandatory):

  • Previous mentor experience
  • Previous experience providing online support
  • Experience of using multiple web development frameworks
  • Experience using solutions such as Zoho, Slack, GitHub
