Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a motivated, detail-oriented, and organized Front-end Developer. While this is a 6-month contract position, our digital marketing and web development services are our fastest-growing business line. This position could become full-time/permanent at any time.

No two days at Accurate are the same. We’re a creative agency that offers a wide range of services. That translates into an equally wide range of challenging assignments. Our front-end developers are vital collaborators. They are an integral part of the creative team that includes: digital designers, UI/UXers, illustrators, writers, photographers and videographers, video and motion graphics editors, SEO/SEM leads, content developers, and social media leads.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the UI/UX team, project managers, and the Creative Director to translate business requirements into technically- and visually-stunning web experiences.
  • Work closely with project managers and/or senior developer to meet target deadlines.
  • With the guidance of the Senior Developer, complete front-end development tasks and contribute to problem-solving or time-saving solutions.
  • Edit & customize Elementor themes for WordPress sites.
  • Create AODA/WCAG 2.1 AA compliant, accessible templates for the Government of Canada (including WET and custom templates) and other organizations required to meet legislated accessibility standards.
  • Perform monthly/quarterly web maintenance on live sites (plug-ins updates, backups, manual site check via FTP or cPanel, performance/speed check, malware checks, Google Analytics/SEO reports, etc.).
  • QA testing: UX experience, technical issues, security issues, content review (proofreading).
  • Troubleshooting and solving website issues on live client sites (e.g. speed/performance issues, glitches, etc.).

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in front-end development or applicable training.
  • Minimum 3 years of on-the-job experience as a front-end developer (bonus points for marketing or creative agency experience).
  • Intermediate knowledge of WordPress, including 2+ years of on-the-job work experience with the Elementor page builder.
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML/CSS, using both to create designs from scratch.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Javascript and jQuery.
  • Basic-level back-end experience with PHP, MySQL and APIs (e.g., Google Maps API).
  • Intermediate knowledge of creating custom WordPress theme templates without a page builder (e.g., custom templates with Advanced Custom Fields - ACF).
  • Competent using Adobe XD or Figma to create UX prototypes, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Experienced at optimizing web pages for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Basic familiarity with code management and workflow environments, such as Git (Github/Bitbucket).
  • Working knowledge of cPanel and/or Plesk, hosting and server environments.
  • Experience implementing accessible websites that conform to legislated standards (e.g., AODA, WCAG 2.1 AA).

Soft Skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong (English) verbal and written communication skills (bonus points for French as a second language).
  • An eye for detail and accurate translation of UI prototype designs to functional sites (i.e., padding, margins, fonts, colours, etc.).
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating your web design and development capabilities.

Bonus skills

  • Experience with the Canadian Government Web Experience Toolkit (WET).
  • Experience with inbound marketing and/or social media scheduling software.
  • Modern development tools (Gulp, Grunt, Bower, NPM).
  • React, Angular, or other Javascript frameworks.

Work schedule:

  • Flexible work schedule.
  • Work in-office (our office is in the south Ottawa, ON area), from home, or both.
  • Day shift.
  • Monday to Friday.

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Salary: $25.00-$30.00 per hour
